Okay, "Reptile" - Did Anyone Actually Like This?

Alright, friends, let's talk about Reptile. Detective Tom Nichols gets assigned a hard case, a young real estage agent is murdered, yadda yadda. I went in expecting... well, not a rom-com obvi, but maybe a Knives Out level of twisty fun? But WHAT was that? Benicio Del Toro is fantastic, as always, but even he couldn't save that script. I'm convinced someone had like, three different crime novels open at the same time and just mashed them together. My theory? The culprit behind the murder wasn't just one person, it was BAD WRITING. Seriously. Okay, hear me out: the whole 'dismantling illusions' thing felt so forced. Like, we get it, everyone is shady. The ex-husband, the business partners, the detectives. But nothing actually connected in a satisfying way. Was anyone else completely lost with the whole pill mill subplot?? I feel like that could have been a whole movie on its own, instead it was just haphazardly thrown in to add to the list of twists. And speaking of twists, I swear I predicted like, five different potential killers before the actual one was revealed - and even that was underwhelming. The motel scene could have been really powerful, but it just ended up dragging on forever! I think my biggest frustration is that the film seemed to think it was much smarter than it actually was. So, convince me I'm wrong! Did anyone actually enjoy this slog? Did someone see the brilliance I clearly missed? Was it just me, or did the ending feel super abrupt? I'm open to changing my mind, but right now, my verdict is: huge waste of Benicio Del Toro's talent and my precious movie-watching time. I'm sticking with rom-coms -- at least I know I'll get a happy ending (hopefully!).
