Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Rant/Rave - Astrid's Wardrobe tho?!
Okay, just saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice for the third time (yes, already, judge me!), and I'm still processing. Overall, I enjoyed it, definitely more Beetlejuice than, say, Dark Shadows was Tim Burton, you know? Anyway, I'm curious what everyone else thought about Astrid's character arc? I felt like Jenna Ortega did a solid job, especially channeling that moody teenager vibe. But seriously, what was up with her wardrobe choices? The moth-eaten sweaters were intentional, right? It played to the whole 'haunted house' aesthetic, but I'm wondering if there's anything more symbolic there? Specifically, in the scene where she's wandering around the attic and accidentally stumbles upon the model town (classic!), her sweater looks almost completely shredded. Was that a visual cue for her feeling lost and disconnected, or was it just a fashion statement from the underworld? I'm probably overthinking it, I always do. It also gives me the sense that she's going to become the new Beetlejuice by fixing the town. She doesn't want her mom to have to fix everything. Anyone else catch anything interesting lurking in the background during that scene? The set design was seriously packed with Easter eggs, I'm sure I missed a ton. Also, and this is a total side note, but Michael Keaton. Still got it. The man is a LEGEND. I really loved how they brought back some of his original mannerisms and jokes. Did anyone else notice how he kept calling Astrid "Bean"? That wasn't in the first movie, was it? I swear I remember him saying that to Lydia in the first one, but I couldn't find any clips of it from the old one. I'm starting to question my whole existence. Anyway, ramble over.
