Wicked (2024) - Okay, I'm Officially Hyped!

So, I just saw the trailer for Wicked and OMG! Listen, I went in expecting a fluffy, pretty musical and I definitely got that vibe, but there's something more there, too. Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba? Giving. Actual. Chills. The moment she sang "Defying Gravity" (even just a snippet!), I got full-body goosebumps. Ariana Grande as Glinda looks absolutely perfect, like she was BORN to wear those ridiculous, sparkly dresses, lol. I am SO READY for their unlikely friendship dynamic. I'm kinda worried about how they'll handle the darker themes, though. The original musical gets deep, and I hope they don't sanitize it too much for a wider audience. Also, fingers crossed they don't overdo the CGI. Oz needs to look magical, yes, but not like a video game cutscene or something. The practical effects in some of the shots looked amazing. What I'm most excited about is seeing Elphaba's backstory really fleshed out. She's always been such a misunderstood character, and I'm hoping this movie will give her the justice she deserves. Plus, can we talk about those winged monkeys for a sec? A little bit creepy, but also kinda cool! Definitely seeing this on opening night - who's with me?! I'm hoping for a good adaptation and not a Cats situation! I have a good feeling this time, though. One last thing - The casting is pretty great, but I am a little worried about the other characters! Hopefully they don't get overshadowed by Ariana and Cynthia. Also, how long until the soundtrack drops? I neeeeeed it.
