Joker 2: My Crazy Theory About the Music (and Harley)

Alright folks, AndersonCuts here. Just got out of "Joker: Folie à Deux," and my brain is STILL buzzing. Ignoring any spoiler stuff here, I wanna throw out a theory that's been kicking around in my head ever since that final scene (you know the one!). The movie's obviously playing with reality, right? Is any of it ACTUALLY happening, or is it all Arthur's warped perception? I'm leaning HEAVY into the latter, especially with the music element. My theory is this: The "music that's always been inside him" isn't literal Broadway-style stuff. It's the sound of his madness escalating, a sort of internal soundtrack driving him and Harley Quinn deeper into their shared delusion. Think about it: the big musical numbers tend to coincide with pivotal moments where reality seems to bend—Harley's introduction, the big breakout scene, that intense tango. What if those aren't real, but Arthur's mind romanticizing their descent into chaos? And Harley? I think she's a projection of his own fractured self. She embodies the parts of him he can't reconcile-- the rage, the humor, the desperate need for connection (even if that connection is completely bonkers). The 'Folie à Deux' isn't just about falling in love with a fellow crazy person; it's about Arthur finding a way to externalize and accept the darkness within himself. Maybe that's why the music is suddenly there. It's like he unlocked access to a whole new level of crazy. Plus, I'm calling it now: that ending? Totally ambiguous. Could be an escape, could be a deeper level of commitment. Either way I thought it was a nice bow for the ending to really make you think of everything. One little detail I noticed (probably nothing), was how clean the set looks. It screams 'stage play' and feels unrealistic. The director wants us to question if its actually real. This might be crazy, but I thought it was worth sharing! What do you guys think? Am I totally off base here?
