Heretic (2024): Faith Tested...and I Was Hooked!

Okay, so I just saw "Heretic" and I'm still a bit unsettled, in a good way! I went in knowing practically nothing, which is usually how I prefer it. The basic premise – two missionaries stumble into a seriously messed-up situation – definitely grabbed me. I'm always a sucker for films that explore the darker sides of faith and belief systems. This one definitely delivered. I can't find who the director is, which is odd, but honestly, the performances carried it. Mr. Reed, the 'diabolical' host, was brilliantly creepy. The actor (whoever he is!) just oozed this quiet menace that made every scene uncomfortable. The poor missionaries, though! You really felt for them as they were put through the wringer. There's this one scene where Mr. Reed is basically dismantling their beliefs piece by piece, and you can see the doubt creeping into their eyes. It was so well done. It explores questions about faith and certainty in a really visceral way. It's not a perfect movie, by any means. Some of the plot points felt a little convenient. However, the overall atmosphere and the constant tension kept me riveted. And honestly, the ending? Super thought-provoking, though maybe not for everyone. I'm curious to see what other people thought. Did anyone else catch this one? What did you make of Mr. Reed's… arguments, I guess? It's the kind of film that stays with you, which I always appreciate. I feel like I need to unpack all the themes presented!
