Is 'A Complete Unknown' Going to Be Another 'Factory Girl'?
Okay, so I just saw the trailer for "A Complete Unknown" – you know, the Dylan biopic supposedly coming out this year? And immediately, I got this weird Deja Vu feeling, like I'd already seen this movie. Not literally, of course, but emotionally. Young, enigmatic artist descends on the Village, shakes things up with talent and charisma… it's a well-worn trope, right? I'm getting major "Factory Girl" vibes, which, let's be honest, was all style and no substance, and wildly historically inaccurate. I'm hoping this one actually gets Dylan and the early 60s scene and doesn't just use it as a backdrop for some tortured genius narrative. I mean, Timothée Chalamet looks the part, I'll give them that. But looking the part and being the part? Huge difference. Remember when everyone thought Val Kilmer was Jim Morrison? Then you actually watched "The Doors" again… yeah, not so much. I'm reserving judgement, but I’m approaching with caution. If they're smart, they'll focus on the music and the cultural context around Dylan, not just trying to psychologize him. God knows that's been done to death. If they're gonna make another 'tortured genius' flick, I'll just stick to watching "Amadeus" again. That one at least is entertaining and well-made. What I did find interesting from early reports is the title and how it evokes a core theme of Dylan's career: transformation. He was constantly reinventing himself, shedding skins like a snake. The scene where he supposedly "goes electric" will be the crucible of the whole movie I bet. If they botch that, it's over. Anyone else feeling a little skeptical? Or am I just turning into my dad, yelling at clouds? Let me know what you think!
