The First Omen - Okay, WTF Was Going On With That Scene??
Alright, just saw The First Omen and I'm still processing. Visually, it was intense. Like, genuinely unsettling in a way that a lot of horror movies just can't pull off anymore. Props to whoever did the practical effects, because some of that stuff looked real. There's this one scene – you know the one, with Margaret in the… well, that scene – and the contortion work? I'm still trying to figure out how they achieved it. Was it all CGI? A combo of practical and digital? Seriously impressed/disturbed. I'm also wondering if anyone knows what the specific inspiration or basis for that visual effect was. It reminded me of similar effects in Event Horizon and Session 9, only more. Sound design was also on point. Those low, guttural rumbles that seemed to be everywhere during the more intense moments really added to the feeling of dread. I'm a sucker for good sound mixing, and this one nailed it. Felt like the theater was vibrating at a frequency that made my teeth ache. But even with all the visual and auditory horror, the story itself felt a bit… rushed, maybe? Or am I missing something? My biggest question is this: what was the deal with the "product"? (trying to avoid spoilers). Were they implying that it was a literal… well, you know? Or was it a metaphor for something else entirely? All that focus on the... process... seemed almost clinical at times, which was even more disturbing. I'm genuinely curious to hear others' interpretations of that whole plot point. Did anyone else feel like it was slightly underdeveloped compared to all the terrifying visuals? Overall, I enjoyed it (if you can call getting your skin crawled "enjoyable"), but I left with so many questions. This one needs a second viewing, I think, just to unpack everything. And maybe a few horror film breakdowns on Youtube.
