"No Way Up": My Crazy Theory About That Ending!

Okay, okay, so I just got out of "No Way Up" and HOLY CRAP. The whole underwater plane crash thing was intense, especially the bits with the shark. I'm still catching my breath. But the ending...the ENDING has me spinning. So everyone who's seen it knows what I'm talking about, right? The survivors finally make it to the surface, only to realize they're in some kind of research facility, a freaking aquarium with sharks deliberately being studied and tested on!!! Here's my batshit crazy theory: What if the whole plane crash was staged? I mean, think about it. The people on board were a really random mix, right? That rich dude, the criminal, the bodyguard, the kid...like, what are the odds they'd all be on the same flight? Maybe it was some kind of social experiment, a twisted way for these scientists to see how different personality types would react under extreme pressure, and their interactions with great white sharks. It's a stretch, I know, but that's just how I interpret it... And okay, this is probably reaching, but what if the sharks were genetically modified to be, well, extra aggressive or extra intelligent? That would explain how relentless they were! It also explained their specific use in research and testing. I mean, yeah, sharks are naturally scary, but there was something especially menacing about these sharks, maybe I'm just scared... It would also make that one shark expert's death even sadder; I did not want her to go AT ALL. Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else thought the ending was a little too convenient? Or am I just overthinking it from all of the horror and shark thrillers I've seen? Let me know your thoughts! I'm dying to hear other theories because I have a feeling I'm gonna be thinking about this one for a while, and might need to go back for a second viewing.
