The Union: Unexpected Fun or Just Unexpected?

Okay, so I just got back from seeing "The Union," and I'm still processing. The premise – Jersey construction guy turned spy because his HS sweetheart randomly reappears? I was immediately intrigued. It's definitely got potential for some fun fish-out-of-water stuff. And honestly, it delivered on that front to a degree. There were definitely a few moments where the pacing felt a bit off. Like, they rushed through the initial 'recruitment' montage a little too quickly. I wanted to see more of the awkwardness and the training! But then, there's this one scene in Berlin (I think it was Berlin?) where he's trying to disarm a bomb using only a wrench and instructions shouted at him over a dodgy earpiece, and that was pure gold. The tension, the goofy reactions… that's where the movie really shines. I think the actress playing his hs sweetheart was great, she brought a certain amount of believability within that absurdity. Definitely a bright spot. Overall, I walked away feeling like it was a fun, if somewhat uneven, ride. Definitely not breaking any spy movie molds, but it was enjoyable as a pure popcorn flick. I'm curious to see what other people think, hopefully the sequel (cause it definitely ended on one) will be tighter. Anyone else catch this yet? What did you make of the pacing? Def some missed opportunity but overall a fun watch.
