Upgraded: I Wasn't Expecting Much, But The Score...!
Okay, so I just finished watching "Upgraded" on Prime, and honestly, I went in with pretty low expectations. Rom-coms aren't usually my thing, you know? I'm mostly here for the soundtracks, haha. The movie itself was...fine. Predictable plot, pretty people, the usual. But I have to give credit where it's due, the score REALLY surprised me. I'm trying to find out who even composed it, because it's not prominently featured anywhere! Anyway, there's this whole vibe going on that's like, effortlessly chic meets playful. When Ana's trying to navigate the art world or having those awkward intern moments with Claire, the music totally amplifies the tension. And then, whenever Will shows up, it shifts to this softer, more romantic soundscape. There's a scene in particular where they're wandering around London (I think?), and the music is just chef's kiss. It elevates the whole thing. Even though the dialogue was kinda cheesy at times, the score was working overtime to sell the feelings, and it totally worked on me. The music saved it from being completely forgettable for me. I wish they'd released a proper soundtrack album, because I'd totally buy it. Anyone know who the composer is? I'm desperately trying to find out! Even if the movie isn't groundbreaking, the score is worth a listen, trust me. Honestly, I might rewatch some scenes just to listen to the score again. Maybe I'm being too generous because I was in a good mood, but I genuinely enjoyed the music. It makes me wish more rom-coms put this much thought into their scores. It could elevate even the most basic storyline!
