Upgraded: Cute, Fluffy, and Perfectly Okay Rom-Com Fun!

Okay, so I just finished watching 'Upgraded' – and I have to say, it was exactly what I needed after a long week. It's definitely not going to win any awards for groundbreaking cinema, but it's a genuinely enjoyable rom-com. Camila Mendes is adorable as Ana, the intern trying to climb the art world ladder, and I totally related to her struggle of wanting to impress her boss from hell (Claire, played by Marisa Tomei, who is always brilliant, even playing a terrible person!). The whole 'mistaken identity' thing is a classic trope, but they pull it off well enough. The romance with Will (Archie Renaux) is sweet, and I especially loved the scenes in London. I was totally sold on the idea of gallivanting around the city with him. Honestly, the plot is a bit predictable, but it has some fun twists. I did get a little annoyed with Ana's lies at times - like girl, just be honest! - but I guess that's the point of the movie, right? Also, I thought the art auction scene felt a bit rushed, would have loved a bit more of that. But overall, it's a lighthearted movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's precisely what I wanted. And let's be real, anything with a significant portion of the film taking place in London is going to get bonus points from me. Plus, seeing a rom-com that centers around the art world instead of, say, a bakery or a bookstore, was actually refreshing. Even if the art itself wasn't particularly mind-blowing, it was something different. I'd give it a solid 7/10. Perfect for a cozy night in with a glass of wine and some snacks. Anyone else seen it? What did you think? Side note: I kinda hate how they always make the 'bad guy' character have to be sooooo overly evil? Like, can we just have some nuance, please? Okay rant over. lol
