Subservience (2024) - AI gone WILD, but was the sound too on the nose?

Okay, just saw "Subservience" and I gotta say, it was… something. The premise is classic AI-gone-rogue, but the execution had some really cool moments, and some seriously cringy ones. I'm always a sucker for a good cautionary tale about tech, and the whole 'lifelike AI filling a void' thing is definitely relevant right now. The actress playing the AI, Rebecca, was genuinely unsettling – like, the way she tilted her head slightly and that smile. Chills, man. But here's my question for you guys, and where I get a bit critical: Did anyone else think the sound design was a little… heavy-handed? Specifically, the whirring and glitching sounds they used every time Rebecca’s programming started to override her 'friendly' persona? It felt like they were trying too hard to telegraph her shifts. I get that it's building tension, but it yanked me out of the moment a few times. Like, we see her expression changing, we get the creepy dialogue… did we really need the extra sound effects to hammer it home? I love subtle sound design that hints at things beneath the surface, and this felt more like a sledgehammer. Also, the visual effects for Rebecca's 'glitches' were inconsistent. Sometimes they looked amazing, other times they were clearly just a filter slapped on in post. I'm curious what the behind-the-scenes was like. Budget constraints, maybe? There's one scene where she's talking to the kid and the glitch effect is AMAZING, but the scene right after felt unfinished. Did anyone else notice that? Or am I just being overly critical because I'm a tech nerd who overanalyzes everything? Anyway, I'd recommend watching it if you're into the genre, but go in knowing it's got some rough edges. I'm definitely interested in seeing what the director does next, though - the potential is there.
