"Miller's Girl": Jenna Ortega & Martin Freeman - Was it just... uncomfortable?

Okay, so I just finished watching "Miller's Girl" and I'm feeling...conflicted. Jenna Ortega is always captivating, and Martin Freeman...well, he's Martin Freeman. But the whole dynamic between Cairo and Mr. Miller just felt so icky. Like, I understand the whole 'blurred lines' and power dynamic being explored, but did anyone else feel like it crossed a line into just being plain uncomfortable to watch? Especially that scene where she's reading her story aloud? Ugh, I cringed. And not in a good cringe, you know? I was hoping for more nuance, maybe a deeper dive into Cairo's motivations. Was she genuinely attracted to him, or was it more about manipulating the situation for her own creative gain? The movie kinda hints at both, but it felt a little shallow in exploring either. Freeman did a good job portraying the tortured artist type, but I honestly just wanted to yell at him to get his act together. Maybe that was the point, I dunno. I did think the dialogue was sharp at times, and the cinematography was pretty good. But overall, I'm left feeling like it was a missed oppurtunity. It had all the elements to be a really thought-provoking film, but it just ended up feeling a bit...exploitative? Maybe that's too strong of a word. But I'm curious to see what everyone else thought. Did anybody actually find their connection believable, or was it just me who felt totally squicked out the entire time? So, what's your take? Did the film land for you, or did you feel like it just leaned too heavily into the uncomfortable aspects without really earning it? I'm genuinely curious to hear different perspectives!
