Borsalino: French Gangster Cool You Probably Missed!

Okay, so last night we watched "Borsalino" (1970) and honestly, I was expecting something kinda cheesy but it was surprisingly good? Like, REALLY good. It's about these two small-time crooks in Marseilles, Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo, who start out fighting over some girl and then decide to team up. What follows is seriously them just becoming top-tier gangsters. I didn't know a movie about horse race fixing and boxing scams could be so stylish lol! Belmondo's character, Roch Siffredi, is hilarious, always cracking wise, but Delon's, Capella, is just stone-cold cool. They play off each other really well. There's this one scene where they're shaking down a bar owner and the sheer audacity of it is amazing. Plus, the clothes? The cars? The MUSIC? I was obsessed and spent way too long searching for similar hats. I'm not gonna lie, the plot is kinda predictable in places, you kinda see where it's going. And some of the action is dated, but the overall vibe more than makes up for it. It kinda reminded me of a French "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," but way less sentimental and more... brutally stylish? I also am gonna be honest, it's a bit violent, just a fair warning if that isn't your thing. But honestly if you want a cool-looking gangster movie this is it. Seriously, if you're looking for something different but still in that classic gangster genre, give "Borsalino" a shot. I'm glad we did and I'm now off to find the sequel. Has anyone seen it before and is it as good as the first one?!
