Yo, Close Encounters Still Holds Up! (But let's be real)

Okay, so I rewatched "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" last night and, damn, Spielberg was really cookin' back in '77. Like, it's not a perfect movie, but it's got that Spielberg magic, ya know? The scene where Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) is just obsessed with making that Devil's Tower shape out of mashed potatoes? Iconic. And a little creepy, tbh. I get the obsession vibe, but dude, chill with the 'taters! What really gets me is the overall feeling of wonder and… well, kinda dread? The whole atmosphere is just so well done, especially the special effects for its time. I mean, the mothership reveal at the end still gives me chills, even though it's, like, totally dated now. But that's part of the charm, right? It's a glimpse into what people back then thought aliens would be and what a contact would look like. I'm not saying it's a completely flawless film. Some of the pacing felt a bit slow and, I'm gonna be honest, some of the child acting was...rough. Still, it's a super influential sci-fi flick and one of Spielberg's best, imo. I also think it's cool that this film made people wonder about the existence of aliens. It is a very thought-provoking film for people who really get into sci-fi. So, yeah, give it a watch if you haven't seen it (or rewatch if you have!). Let me know what you think! Did the mashed potatoes disturb you as much as they did me? haha.
