Okay, 'The Island of Dr. Moreau' (1977): So, That Happened...

Alright, folks, Amanda here! So, the other night after the kids were finally asleep, I decided to dive into 'The Island of Dr. Moreau' (the one from '77). I'd heard… things. Let me tell you, it's definitely an experience. The basic premise, right, is this guy gets stranded on this island where Dr. Moreau is turning animals into people. Kinda Frankenstein-ish, but with fur and fangs. It's… weird. Really weird. Marlon Brando is out of his mind. Like, he's wearing all this white makeup and these weird cones on his head and just mumbling. Honestly, I spent half the movie wondering what he was on. Then there's the whole concept of the Beast People. Some of the makeup is genuinely unsettling, especially the Sayer of the Law. Creepy stuff! Parts of it are slow. Like, really slow. Especially between all the Brando mumbles. There were parts where I was just waiting for them to get to the plot point. Is it good? Hard to say. It's definitely memorable, and not always in a good way. There's something fascinating about how bonkers it is. I kept thinking, "How did they even film this??" The scene with the Beast People chanting their laws is genuinely unsettling. It's not something I'd watch with the kids EVER. Seriously, steer clear if you have little ones around. But for adults who like bizarre, slightly disturbing movies with a side of Marlon Brando being… well, Marlon Brando… it might be worth a watch. Just don't expect a coherent masterpiece, lol. Has anyone else seen it? I need to know I'm not alone in being completely baffled/intrigued by this film. What are your thoughts? And which version do you think is superior--this one or another?
