"We Will All Meet in Paradise": A slice-of-life sci-fi...kinda?

Okay, so I just watched "We Will All Meet in Paradise" (1977) and...wow. It's weird. Not like, "Event Horizon" weird, but like, "what if French New Wave fell into a wormhole and landed on a slightly-off Earth" weird. The sci-fi element is super subtle, just these little hints that things aren't quite right, almost mundane. Like, Dorsay's jealousy over the photo is so over-the-top, it's almost exaggerated to the point of absurdity, and yet it's SO relatable. It's like the director is trying to make a statement about human nature, but in a really roundabout way. The visuals are striking, especially for a '77 film, and the acting is superb. I was really drawn in by the world, even though the sci-fi was so understated. I spent most of the movie trying to figure out what was 'off', and that really made me involved in the whole movie, more than I would have thought. The weirdest scene was definitely when Dorsay imagines building a massive observatory just to spy on Marthe. Like, who even does that?! It felt so out of place, and then it hit me--it's a metaphor for the invasiveness of technology and surveillance creeping into relationships. Blew my mind a little bit, not gonna lie. Honestly, I'm still processing it. It's not an action-packed, laser-fest, but if you're into slow-burn sci-fi with a heavy dose of existential dread and a heaping spoonful of French angst, give it a shot. Prepare to be confused, intrigued, and maybe a little bit uncomfortable. I kinda loved it. Definitely going to be spending a lot of time thinking about this one. Anyone else seen it? What did you think? Am I totally off base here?
