French Fried Vacation: So dumb, but I kinda loved it? 🌴
Okay, so I just finished watching "French Fried Vacation" (Les Bronzés), and I'm not even sure WHAT to say. It's... a whole vibe. Anyone else seen this crazy French comedy from the 70s? The plot is basically just a bunch of ridiculously awkward French people on a Club Med vacation, trying (and mostly failing) to have a good time. Like, the sunburn scene alone? Ouch! I was cringing so bad, but also laughing? So confusing! Bernard and Nathalie were the cutest couple, even though they were both kinda disasters. I felt so bad for them when they lost their luggage, especially Nathalie's sandals lol. And Popeye...oh my god, Popeye. Is he supposed to be charming? Because he came off as super creepy! I especially cringed at the scene with the med student, Jerome, and the local tribesmen. It was funny in a really, really awkward way, but also… a little bit problematic? 🤔 I know it's super dated and probably not for everyone, but there's something strangely endearing about it. It's like a time capsule of 70s awkwardness and hedonism gone wrong. I defintely don't think it's a cinematic marvel or anything, maybe not even that good actually, but it made me feel something (mostly secondhand embarrassment), and sometimes that's all I need from a movie. I think i just watched a dumb movie, because I felt like I wasn't enjoying it, yet I kept on watching it. So, yeah, I'm giving "French Fried Vacation" a solid 'I don't know what I just watched, but I can't look away' recommendation? Check it out if you're in the mood for something completely bonkers (and don't say I didn't warn you!). Also, did anyone actually find Popeye attractive? I'm seriously questioning my own sanity after seeing it! 😂
