'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' - Underrated, but is it good?
Alright, alright, settle down Beatles fanatics. I finally got around to watching 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' (1978). And look, I'm not gonna lie, it's... fine. Perfectly cromulent. Dare I say, even a little charming at times. But people treat this like it's some forgotten comedy goldmine? Come on. The whole 'desperate girls chasing The Beatles' thing works, but let's be honest – it gets repetitive. The humor is mostly broad, sight gags and screaming teenagers. The whole 'Rosie accidentally gets engaged' subplot? Snoozeville. And while I appreciate the chaos and energy, it often feels forced, like they're trying too hard for that 'A Hard Day's Night' vibe. I did chuckle once or twice, mostly at Eddie Deezen's character though. The scene where he tries to get into the hotel room is gold. Look, I get it. It's a nostalgia trip. It captures a specific moment in pop culture history. But let's not pretend it's some cinematic triumph, okay? Fun enough for a rainy afternoon, but probably not something I'd revisit anytime soon. Am I the only one who thinks Nancy Allen was kind of miscast? She's fine, but felt like she belonged in a different, grittier movie.
