Okay, "The Brood" officially messed me up 😳
So, last night me and the girls decided to watch "The Brood," because Sarah was like, "OMG, it's Cronenberg at his Cronenbergiest!" lol. She wasn't wrong. I'm not usually into super gross stuff, but this was... fascinatingly disturbing? Like, the whole 'psychoplasmics' thing with Dr. Hal Raglan and Nola was just... wow. Oliver Reed is amazing, creepy, but still amazing, as the doctor. It really got under my skin. I mean, giving birth to rage-fueled mutant children? Night. Mare. Fuel. The scene where the kid smashes the old lady's head in with the hammer? I literally gasped. Like, out loud. And the way Nola's anger manifested physically? Brrr. I kept thinking about my own issues and if that could happen, and now I need a drink and maybe therapy, haha. Samantha Eggar totally nailed the fragile-yet-terrifying vibe as Nola. Seriously, her performance was unsettlingly good. What I couldn't quite figure out was Frank's role. Like, Art Hindle did a decent job, but I was kind of annoyed with him? Always running around trying to figure things out but not really understanding what was going on until it was way too late. I think his character was supposed to ground the madness, but he mostly just came off as clueless. But hey, maybe that was the point? Overall, I'm glad I watched it, even though I'm probably going to have nightmares. Definitely not a relaxing watch, but it's one of those movies that sticks with you, ya know? Like, I'm still thinking about it this morning. And I kinda wanna watch it again? I'm so conflicted. Anyone else seen it and felt totally weirded out but also intrigued??
