Okay, "The Tin Drum"...What Was Even HAPPENING?
So, I just finished watching "The Tin Drum," and I'm officially confused but also strangely entertained? Like, what was that movie even about? A kid decides he doesn't want to grow up after a fall? And then just...doesn't? That's already wild. But then throw in the rise of the Nazis, all the totally bizarre family drama, and a whole lotta drumming... I'm still trying to piece it all together. Honestly, I think the director was just tripping, lol. Here's my theory: maybe Oskar did grow up, but his mind stayed a child. Like, the physical stuff stopped, but he was seeing the world through a kid's eyes the whole time. That's why everything is so exaggerated and weird. Remember the scene where he screams and shatters glass? And those snails...eww. I'm pretty sure its all metaphors or summ, I dont know what for though. It could all be his immaturity and not wanting to face grown-up issues boiling over and distorting his reality. Plus, the tin drum itself? Total symbol for childhood innocence, right? He bangs on it to protest the adult world and hold onto that innocence, but then things get more and more messed up, and the drumming just isn't enough. I gotta say, the ending was kinda bleak. But hey...at least I can say I watched it? Overall, a lot of weird nudity and violence but pretty entertaining. Some scenes were just plain disturbing, though. Does anyone else have thoughts on this fever dream of a movie? Am I way off base with my theory? Hit me up!
