Ok, "The Changeling" (1980) - Am I the ONLY One Freaked Out By This?
Hey horror hounds! Jessmovienerd here, and I just watched "The Changeling" (the 1980 one, not that Angelina Jolie flick!). I went in pretty blind, just knew it was supposed to be a classic haunted house movie - and WOW, did it deliver the chills. I'm talking serious goosebumps, the kind where you check behind you every five minutes kinda chills. So, John Russell, our main dude, loses his family in a truly awful accident and then moves into this HUGE, creepy old house in Seattle. The house itself is basically a character, right? All those echoing hallways and shadowy corners… I was on edge from the jump. But the real creepiness starts when he starts experiencing these strange occurrences. The banging...oh man. Anyone else just jump outta their seat during those banging scenes? And that freakin' ball that keeps bouncing down the stairs?! Simple, but SO effective. I honestly think I'm gonna have nightmares about that ball tonight. But here's my question and what's been bugging me the most: What do you all think about the whole wheelchair revelation? Knowing that the house was built because of the secrets it held, and then discovering the wheelchair at the bottom of the well… like, WHOA. It was like all the pieces of a truly disturbing puzzle clicking into place. But did you find the ending satisfying? I mean, it felt right, but I'm still kinda wrestling with the whole, "What happens now?" aspect. Discuss!! Also anyone else think George C. Scott killed it, or was it just me? He wasn't your average horror protagonist, and I genuinely felt for the guy. Anyway, I'm off to sleep with all the lights on...thanks a lot, "The Changeling"! Seriously though, let me know your thoughts! I need someone to dissect this movie with! Maybe I was just too tired to watch it, or maybe that movie needs more love...let me know!
