Stir Crazy: Is This the 80s "Some Like It Hot"?

Hey all, moviebuff_marc here. Just re-watched "Stir Crazy" and it's still hilarious. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor...man, those guys had comedic timing down to a science. The whole mistaken identity thing, the prison rodeo... it’s pure gold. But it got me thinking, is this the 80s version of "Some Like It Hot"? Two regular joes, completely out of their element, caught up in something way bigger than them. I mean, sure, "Some Like It Hot" is arguably the better film (Billy Wilder, come on!), but "Stir Crazy" has that same kind of frantic energy and those incredible performances from the leads. The whole sequence where they're prepping for the rodeo, learning to ride – Pryor's facial expressions alone are worth the price of admission. And the sheriff, corrupt as he is, is a classic comedic villain. Anyone else see the connection? Maybe it's just me being nostalgic for the good old days when comedy didn't have to be so damn self-aware. I'm curious what you all think. Any other 80s flicks that feel like they're echoing earlier comedies? Maybe I'm just drawing a blank. Let me know! Also, am I the only one who always wanted one of those sweet woodpecker costumes? Okay, maybe it's just me lol.
