Nightmare City: Nuclear zombies...or just REALLY aggressive tourists?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Nightmare City" (1980). The plot is pretty insane, in a good way. Nuclear radiation turns people into these, like, super-strong, knife-wielding zombies who are just tearing up this unnamed European city. A TV reporter and his doctor wife get caught in the middle. It's wild. Like, the acting is... something. But the sheer bonkers-ness keeps you glued. Also, I can't find who directed this thing! Did they use a pseudonym or something? My biggest question is: Were these really supposed to be traditional zombies? They run SUPER fast, use weapons (knives, mostly), and seem strangely focused. It's almost like they're just REALLY angry, radiation-poisoned people and not actually undead. I kept thinking about the scene where the group of them storms into the TV station - those jumpsuits and blank stares are terrifying. But the way they strategically moved and attacked felt more like a trained military unit than mindless monsters. And let's talk about the military's response! They're practically useless! They keep getting slaughtered and seem to have no clue what's happening. I know it's a low-budget flick, but come on! Did anyone else think the general seemed weirdly calm throughout the whole apocalypse? I mean, he barely raises his voice! So, what's the deal? Are these zombies or just REALLY unpleasant holidaymakers who've had a bad experience at a nuclear power plant? Anyone else seen this and have any thoughts? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I'm genuinely curious what others thought about the 'zombie' portrayal here.
