Blow Out and Sally's Killer Style (Pun Intended!)
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Blow Out" and wow. Just...wow. It's way more intense than I was expecting. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. DePalma's a genius, or at least he was then. But as usual, my brain went straight to the fashion, lol. Sally, played by Nancy Allen, has this incredible early 80s look that's both vulnerable and kinda badass. Like, she starts off in these totally ripped jeans and a fairly plain top, but she's got this whole streetwise thing going on. I loved her whole look when she's with Jack, especially when she trades up for some slightly more polished pieces - but not TOO polished. There's that one amazing scene where she's clearly been roughed up but she's still rockin' a cute outfit. It’s subtle, but it really adds to her character. Like, she clearly cares about her appearance more than you'd think from her circumstances. It's a good way to show her resilience I think. I also noticed how the clothes almost reinforce Jack's obsession. He's got this really 'regular guy' wardrobe, all polos and beige jackets, which makes him almost invisible. Meanwhile, Sally is wearing all these things that pull your eye - she's the focus, both for Jack and for us as an audience. The contrast is really effective. Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts! If you haven't seen it, give it a watch. But maybe not alone at night, haha.
