Tootsie: Still funny, but... hmm 🤔
Okay, so I finally watched Tootsie the other night. I'd heard so much about it, especially how "groundbreaking" it was back in the day. And yeah, Dustin Hoffman is hilarious as Dorothy. The whole thing with him trying to keep the act up while falling for Julie (Jessica Lange!) is pretty classic. I gotta say, some of the scenes had me cracking up, like when he's trying to direct the play and everyone is completely lost, lol. And the constant outfit changes! Comedy GOLD. But... I dunno, watching it now, some parts felt a little dated, you know? Like the whole 'man pretending to be a woman' thing, even though it's played for laughs, it's still a tricky concept. My husband and I had a whole discussion about it afterward. It's interesting to see how much our perspectives have changed over the years. I did really appreciate how the movie showed the challenges women face in the workplace, even if it was through a comedic lens. And Jessica Lange is just amazing; she brings so much depth to Julie. All in all, it was a funny movie, and definitely thought-provoking, but I think it's worth watching with a critical eye. Any thoughts from anyone else who's seen it recently? Did it hold up for you? Oh! And random thought, did anyone else think it was a little weird that his roommate was like, obsessed with him? I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be romantic or just codependent. Maybe I'm overthinking it... 😅
