Okay, Hear Me Out: "Grease 2" Actually Slaps?
Alright, rom-com aficionados, let's talk about the elephant in the room, or rather, the black leather jacket in Rydell High's garage: Grease 2. I know, I know, it's not the OG. Nobody can replace Danny and Sandy. BUT, as someone who's seen it way more times than I care to admit (thanks, childhood VHS!), I genuinely think it's unfairly hated. Is it a cinematic masterpiece? LOL, no. But is it a fun, cheesy, gloriously 80s guilty pleasure? Absolutely. Specifically, I wanna know if I'm alone in thinking that Stephanie Zinone (Michelle Pfeiffer, looking absolutely ICONIC) is a way more interesting female lead than Sandy. Like, Sandy's great, but Stephanie wants a 'cool rider' who's NOT your typical T-Bird and has actual aspirations outside of Rydell. Plus, 'Cool Rider' is an absolute banger of a song. Do we think Michael's transformation into the mystery man was believable? I mean, he went from nerdy Brit to motorcycle maniac practically overnight. But hey, it's a musical. We suspend our disbelief, right? And the songs! Okay, some of them are truly awful (looking at you, 'Reproduction'...), but others are straight-up jams. 'Score Tonight'? Underrated. 'Girl for All Seasons'? So bad it's good. I think the biggest problem is that it tries so hard to recapture the magic of the first one, but in doing so, it kinda trips over itself. But there's something about the sheer audacity of it all that I appreciate. So, am I alone in my Grease 2 love? Or are there any other closet fans out there willing to defend this cinematic treasure? Spill the popcorn, people!
