OMG "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" legit BROKE ME (in the BEST way) - Theory Time!

Okay, so I watched "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" last night and I'm STILL processing. I knew going in it was supposed to be funny, and Steve Martin is ALWAYS hilarious, but the WAY they used the old footage? Genius! And heart-wrenching!! Like, I was laughing, but then I'd see Cary Grant or Humphrey Bogart and I'd get this weird pang of nostalgia and sadness. It was such a strange combo of emotions, I swear I almost cried like three times! Anyone else get that feeling?? My theory is this: Juliet's dad, the cheese scientist (lol, seriously, cheese scientist!), wasn't just working on a cheese recipe. I think he was onto something HUGE, maybe even a way to, like, solve world hunger or something? It's that 'secret of life' trope, right? All those classic noir films they were spoofing, they're all about corrupt power structures crushing the little guy. So, what if the cheese recipe wasn’t just cheese, you know? It was a metaphor! And the reason so many classic noir villains were after it wasn't just for profit, buuuut because it threatened their whole system! I got REALLY choked up at the end, when Rigby is explaining everything to Juliet. The way the lighting was, and the way they spliced in Bogart's reaction... it felt like he really cared, even though he was just a compilation of old movie clips. Maybe it's stupid, but it got me thinking about how we can find connections even in the most unexpected places. Like, this silly comedy actually made me reflect on the human condition! Is that too much? Maybe. But that's how I felt! lol Finally! Can we talk about the actual murderer? I’m still unclear on who it was, but my guess is that it’s someone nobody suspects, like the Butler? I really need to watch a few more times to be 100% sure. But I'd love to hear what other theories you guys have!!! Let me know!!!
