A Christmas Story: Does it REALLY hold up?

Okay, so I just re-watched A Christmas Story. Full disclosure, I've seen it probably a million times, like everyone else who grew up with cable, lol. It's... nostalgic, for sure. But I'm starting to wonder if it's actually good, or if it's just that we're all so used to it being played non-stop every Christmas. Ralphie's obsession with the Red Ryder BB gun is def relatable to kid-me wanting certain toys ONLY. But the dad's leg lamp? I've ALWAYS found that subplot kinda... grating? Like, I get the humor and all, but it feels so disconnected from Ralphie's main quest to get the gun. Also, I'm kinda sensitive to casual bullying these days (Scut Farkus, ugh) and wondering if that stuff aged well. It's definitely a product of its time. Then there's Flick and the tongue-on-the-flagpole. I still cringe, even knowing what's coming. And the Bumpus hounds STILL crack me up. So, mixed feelings, I guess? What I'm really wondering is, for those who saw it first as adults, without the nostalgia goggles, what did you think? Did the humor land? Or did Ralphie just seem like a spoiled brat and his dad like a weirdo? I am genuinely curious here, so don't @ me too hard! haha.
