Anybody Else Still Thinking About "The Last Battle" (1983)?
Okay, so I've watched The Last Battle like, a million times. It's one of those movies that just sticks with you, you know? The whole atmosphere is just so bleak and unsettling, even though there's barely any dialogue. I keep noticing new stuff, and like, things that make me go "hmmm." For example, the scene where The Man (Pierre Jolivet) first encounters the Woman... the way they communicate without actually talking is incredible. The use of expressions and body language really carries the emotional weight of the new world, so desolate and brutal. And what about the random attacks with a spear? I think it shows the breakdown of any type of human interaction. One thing I still can't figure out is the purpose of the doctor character (Jean-Christophe Bouvet). Like, I get that he represents a semblance of the old world or some attempt to rebuild society, but his motivations are still kind of unclear. Like, is he genuinely trying to help, or is he just another power-hungry dude? Maybe a little of both, which is even creepier to me. What did you all think? Honestly, it's not a 'fun' movie by any stretch. You know, it's depressing, violent at times and very weird to watch. But there is something artistic about it that is unique. Still recommend even if you might have nightmares.
