Ghostbusters (1984) - Timeless Comedy GOLD!

Alright, so who hasn't seen Ghostbusters, right? But I just re-watched it and man, the comedic timing in this thing is STILL perfect. The setup is so well done—the whole university scene where they get canned sets up the stakes so well without being melodramatic. And then the rapid escalation as they actually start catching ghosts...chef's kiss. The pacing in the first half is almost unbelievably tight. It just moves. What I appreciate, too, is the groundedness of the characters, even though they're dealing with the supernatural. They're cynical and sarcastic, and it makes their reactions to the craziness so much funnier. Bill Murray's delivery is obviously iconic, but honestly, the whole cast is firing on all cylinders. I especially love how Dan Aykroyd brings such a genuine enthusiasm to his belief in the paranormal. That earnestness is a great foil to everyone else's skepticism (or at least feigned skepticism). Okay, gonna nitpick a tiny bit. I think the final act, while HUGE and visually impressive for its time, loses a little bit of the initial momentum. It gets a little… chaotic? Maybe it's just because the beginning sets such a high bar. And the effects, cool as they are, definitely show their age these days. But overall, Ghostbusters is still an absolute masterclass in comedy writing and character work. It's one of those films where every scene has at least one quotable line. It's a movie that understands when to slow down to let the jokes land, and when to speed up to keep the energy high. And it's a damn fun ride. What do you guys think? Any favorite lines or moments that stand out for you?
