Ghostbusters (1984) - Still Holds Up, But How?

Okay, so I know Ghostbusters is… Ghostbusters. It's a classic. But I was rewatching it the other night, and I started wondering why it still works so well. Like, the special effects are pretty dated now, right? But I was still laughing my butt off at Venkman's sarcasm and terrified (a little) by the librarian ghost. I think part of it is the chemistry between the cast. Bill Murray is obviously brilliant, but Aykroyd and Ramis play off him so well. Like, the scene where they're explaining their ghostbusting business to the bank manager? Gold. Pure gold. But does anyone else think Sigourney Weaver gets a little shafted? Dana's possessed scenes are amazing, but before that, she's kinda just… there. I’d love to see a version that fleshes her out more as a character before the whole Zuul thing. And the pacing is so weirdly perfect! It's cheesy, it's silly, but it builds to the climax so well. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man still gets me grinning like an idiot. So, what do you guys think? Is it just nostalgia goggles, or is there something genuinely genius about this movie that makes it timeless? Does anyone else think the sequel is kind of a letdown compared to this? Let's discuss!
