Gremlins Score: Is it as good as I think it is?!

Okay, soundtrack nerds, let's talk Gremlins (1984). I feel like Jerry Goldsmith's score for this movie is seriously underrated. We're always going on about The Omen and Planet of the Apes, and rightfully so, but Gremlins is just…perfect. It's playful, it's creepy, it's genuinely scary at times, and it captures the chaotic energy of those little monsters brilliantly. Like, the main theme alone is iconic. But here's my question for you all: am I overhyping it? Specifically, I'm thinking about the scene in the kitchen when the Gremlins are going wild – the music there is so frenetic and almost cartoonish, but it never feels…cheap? It enhances the comedic horror perfectly. Also, the Gizmo's Theme is so sweet and innocent, it's a brilliant juxtaposition to the Gremlin mayhem. I've been listening to the isolated score a lot lately, and I'm just blown away by the depth and complexity. Anyone else think this should be talked about more as one of Goldsmith's best? Or am I just blinded by nostalgia? (Totally possible, haha). I'm curious to hear your thoughts – favorite cues, overall impressions, anything! Let's discuss!
