Gremlins: Still holds up, fight me

Okay, so I just finished watching Gremlins for like, the millionth time? Seriously, this movie is a Christmas staple in my house, even though it's kinda messed up for a 'kids' movie, lol. The scene where they're all singing Christmas carols before, you know, total chaos ensues? Classic. And Phoebe Cates' monologue about her dad dying in the chimney dressed as Santa... dark humor gold, I tell ya. Also, Gizmo is the cutest thing ever, I'd totally risk destroying my town for him. JUST KIDDING... mostly. I always wondered how Mr. Wing just knew about the rules, though. Like, did he just wing it (pun intended, sorry) or did he have a Gizmo-gone-wrong story of his own? That's the kinda thing that keeps me up at night. Also, Stripe is a total jerk. Seriously, even for a gremlin, he's extra malicious. He just WANTS to cause problems. Billy Peltzer wasn't perfect, obviously, but Stripe was pure evil from the moment he popped out of that cocoon. The kitchen scene with the blender? Still makes me cringe. And the microwave? Oh man. They really went all out with the practical effects. I can't even imagine trying to make that movie today with CGI - it wouldn't be the same. It's got that 80s charm, you know? Does anyone else think that Gremlins 2 is underrated though? The brain gremlin cracks me up every time. Anyway, just wanted to shout into the void about how much I appreciate this movie. It's funny, it's scary (for a kid, anyway), and it's got heart. What's not to love? Okay, maybe the exploding gremlins are a bit much for some people... but hey, it's a classic! Let me know your favorite part, or if you think I'm totally wrong about Gremlins 2, lol.
