Gremlins: Worldbuilding Lessons from Christmas Chaos!

Okay, so I know Gremlins isn't exactly high-brow sci-fi, BUT hear me out. As a fellow worldbuilder, I think there are some seriously interesting things to learn from this movie about creating rules and consequences. Three simple rules, right? Don't get him wet, keep him away from bright light, and NEVER feed him after midnight. Seems straightforward, but the impact of breaking those rules is insane! The whole transformation sequence from Gizmo to the evil gremlins, the escalation... brilliantly done. I mean, they literally create a whole ecosystem of chaos in that small town. It's a microcosm of how a single, seemingly small decision can have massive repercussions in a constructed world. And let's talk about the gremlins themselves. They're not just mindless monsters. They have a twisted sense of humor, they're inventive (in a horrifying way, lol), and they clearly have some kind of social structure. That scene in the bar, with them playing poker and drinking... it's simultaneously terrifying and hilarious, exactly what Joe Dante was going for! It hints at a whole culture we only glimpse, which is what makes them so compelling. I always got the sense that their world would be truly insane, and I wish the film would have delved deeper into it. Plus, I think the rules themselves have an almost mythical quality. It's like these alien rules were brought to our reality, and suddenly, the consequences have weight. Maybe they apply to more than just the Mogwai? It almost felt like the writer was saying something deeper about tampering with nature, right? Like, what if other creatures and entities have their own set of laws we are violating and don't even know it?! That's the kind of stuff that keeps me up at night (thinking about my next world, haha). Anyway, I know it's cheesy, but Gremlins always gets me thinking. What do you guys think? Any other 'rules' in sci-fi/fantasy that have really stuck with you and helped to make a world feel truly unique? Let me know!
