Amadeus: Legitimately Obsessed Or Just Old Dude Angst?

Okay, so I just finished Amadeus for like, the millionth time. And I gotta say, it still gets me. I know it's, like, based on a play and there's historical debate and blah blah blah, but just as a movie, man, it's something else. F. Murray Abraham as Salieri? Unreal. Total slow burn of jealousy and resentment. I always feel kinda bad for him, even though he's clearly the 'villain' - if you can even call him that. It's more like he's just… bitterly disappointed in his own pretty good talent when faced with Mozart's pure, unadulterated genius. Like, imagine trying to be good at anything when Mozart's just existing. No wonder he went a little bonkers. And then there's Tom Hulce as Mozart. Some people find his laugh annoying, and okay, maybe it is a LITTLE much sometimes... but I kinda love it? It's so him. It's like, this guy is so overflowing with talent, he doesn't even know what to do with it all. The scene where he's dictating the Requiem to Salieri? Chills. Literal chills. You can see Salieri's just floored by the music practically flowing out of Mozart even when he's so sick and messed up. It's almost unfair, really. Honestly, the whole thing is just so beautifully shot too. Like a fever dream of 18th-century Austria. The costumes, the sets, the music - obviously - just all top notch. I always wondered if it all really happened like that though? History is messy huh. I mean, did Salieri actually do anything? Or was he just an old dude obsessed with a younger, cooler guy? Anyway, yeah. Just needed to yell about Amadeus into the void for a minute. What do you guys think? Team Salieri or Team Mozart? Or are you somewhere in the middle, like me, completely mesmerized by the whole crazy story? Hit me with your takes!
