Anyone else notice this weird Atreyu detail in The NeverEnding Story?
Okay, so I've probably seen The NeverEnding Story like, a million times. It's a childhood staple, you know? But something struck me this last watch-through and I'm wondering if anyone else picked up on it. It's about Atreyu's quest and Falcor. Specifically, remember the scene where Atreyu finds the Southern Oracle? It's a pretty intense scene, right? And then later, when he's lost and basically giving up, he's suddenly rescued by Falcor? It always felt a little...convenient? Like, okay, great, but how did Falcor even find him? Did I miss something? Did the Oracle give Falcor a location or something? It's never really explained, is it? And another thing, I know the film is dated, but I'm sometimes distracted by bits that haven't aged well. I actually find the special effects pretty charming, but the whole Gmork/Nothing design has me wondering what the creators were going for. What exactly is the Nothing? I know it's supposed to represent the loss of imagination and hope and stuff, but visually, it's just a bunch of wind. I just think the execution of this particular element is a bit off, but that's just me. Am I overthinking this or is there something more to that scene that I'm missing after all these years?
