Nausicaä: Book vs. Movie - Is it even fair to compare?

Okay, bookworms and film fanatics, let's talk Nausicaä. I finally watched the movie after reading the manga a while back (all seven volumes, whew!). And wow, it's...different, right? Like, I know adaptations take liberties, but the movie covers maybe the first two volumes? It's such a tiny sliver of the whole story! Don't get me wrong, the animation is stunning, even now. And Nausicaä herself is beautifully realized - her compassion and bravery really shine through. But I missed so much of the political intrigue, the development of characters like Kushana (who is way more complex in the manga!), and the deeper exploration of the Sea of Corruption's mysteries. That whole 'purification' thing gets glossed over, which feels like a huge loss. Also, the Ohmu are terrifying but also kind of misunderstood in the book, which gets downplayed a bit in the movie, i think. So, here's my question: Is it even fair to compare them? The movie is a gorgeous, self-contained story with a strong message. But the manga is a sprawling epic with so much more depth and nuance. Should I even try to judge it as an adaptation, or just appreciate it as its own thing? I'm genuinely curious what you all think! And another thought - if they ever tried to adapt the entire manga into a series of movies or a show, could they even do it justice? It feels almost impossible.
