Okay, I Watched Dune (1984) - What Was That??
So, I finally took the plunge and watched Dune (the old one). I gotta admit, I'm a bit...confused? Like, the visuals were kinda cool in a very 80s, over-the-top way. Paul Atreides with the glowing blue eyes was pretty striking, and the sandworms looked kinda terrifying, even if they were clearly models. But honestly, the story was so dense and the dialogue was...well, let's just say it wasn't exactly natural. "The spice extends life. The spice expands consciousness. The spice is vital to space travel." Okay, I GET IT, IT'S IMPORTANT. They repeated it enough times, lol. I think I was most confused by the Baron Harkonnen. Like, he was so over the top evil it was almost comical. The whole floating thing was weird too. And what WAS up with all the random chanting and weird sound effects? Did anyone else find that a bit much? Jessica (Paul's mom) was pretty cool though, I liked her vibe. And the Fremen were interesting with their stillsuits. That was a pretty smart idea actually. I'm not sure if I liked it like, love it, but I defintely think it's a movie I need to research more. Maybe with some context about the books and the director (whoever that was lol) it'll make more sense. I feel like I missed a ton of stuff. It's definitely not a movie where you can just turn your brain off, that's for sure. Anyway, anyone else seen it? Am I completely missing the point here? Let me know your thoughts! Should I bother with the newer one?
