Just Watched Police Academy (1984) - What a TRIP!

Okay, so remember how I said I was trying to catch up on some classics? Well, last night I finally got around to watching Police Academy (1984). I knew basically nothing going in except that it was a comedy and, like, about cops. And honestly? I was NOT prepared for how ridiculous it was. Like, totally over-the-top ridiculous. The plot, about the new mayor letting anyone join the police, was just a setup for pure chaos. Honestly, some of the characters were hilarious! Hightower was a giant! And that sound effect guy, Jones? Seriously, I was cracking up every time he did his impressions. And Tackleberry with all his guns? He was like a walking armory! But then there was some stuff that... well, it felt a little dated, you know? Like, maybe some of the jokes wouldn't fly as well today. I dunno, I'm kinda torn on that. Overall, it was funny but some humour is defintely from a bygone era. I gotta say, the whole Blue Oyster Bar scene was... something else. I can see why it's so iconic! I was legit laughing out loud. But yeah, it seemed like every other scene was just trying to be as crazy as possible, which sometimes worked and sometimes felt forced. Still, you can tell it's influenced like a zillion comedies since then. Anyone else have thoughts on this one? Am I missing something crucial, or is it just a fun, goofy movie that's a product of its time? Oh, and one last thing: I have no clue who directed this haha. Gotta look that up!
