Anyone Else Find "Wizards" (1977) Kinda Bonkers... But Awesome?
Okay, so I just rewatched "Wizards" (1977) for like, the millionth time, and I still don't know WHAT Ralph Bakshi was smoking, but I kinda dig it. Seriously, elves with lightsabers fighting Nazis with machine guns? It's so weird, it kinda loops back around to being brilliant, y'know? I mean, the animation's all over the place, and the story's... well, let's just say it's not exactly Shakespeare lol, but the sheer audacity of it all is what gets me. Blackwolf is such a great villain, too. He's got that classic 'evil dude trying reclaim an era' thing going on, but with this insane, almost cartoonish cruelty that just works. And Wizard Avatar and Peace? Total opposites but both tryna fight back against the evil. I'm curious - Does anyone else think the whole 'technology vs. magic' thing in the movie is actually kinda deep? Like, it's not just a cool visual conflict, it's almost like Bakshi was saying something about how easily we can fall into destructive patterns again, even with all our advancements. Or am I just reading too much into it? What are your favorite parts? I always lose it when Blackwolf uses the film reels with the actual Nazi footage to brainwash his troops. Talk about traumatizing! And the final battle is just a beautiful mess, like a tripped-out fever dream. Seriously, though, anyone else love (or hate!) this movie as much as I do? Let's hear your takes!
