Boys From Brazil: Creepy or Just Plain Weird?

Okay, so I finally watched "The Boys from Brazil" (yeah, I know, late to the party). I kept hearing about it, this Mengele plot to recreate Hitler...it's definitely a trip, right? Laurence Olivier is solid as Ezra Lieberman, bringing that old-school gravitas. But honestly, some of it felt... I dunno, theatrical in a way that didn't quite land. Like, super over the top. "He's dead, Jim!" levels of obvious sometimes. What got me thinking was the cloning aspect. The whole 'raising the boys in identical situations to Hitler' thing...did anyone else find that concept more unsettling than the actual Nazi stuff? I mean, the idea of controlling someone's destiny that completely just... sticks in my craw. The scene where Mengele's explaining the plan? "Heil Honey, I'm Home!" levels of messed up genius genius. And Gregory Peck as Mengele? I get that he was going for chillingly detached, but at times it felt a little... flat? Maybe that's just me. Was it supposed to be campy? Because, seriously, some of the plot points are bordering on it! Especially that accident scene with the Dobermans. Woof, indeed. So, did it hold up for everyone else? Did the ending leave you thinking 'oh no, they didn't' or just plain confused? I'm just curious what people thought of it now, seeing how 'old' it is.
