Okay, "The Boys from Brazil" Messed Me UP (Theory Time!)

So, I just finished watching "The Boys from Brazil" and WOW. I knew going in it was about Nazis and Mengele, but the whole clones thing? Honestly, it's less about the plot itself and more about the ick factor, you know? Like, the way they were setting up these boys to mirror Hitler’s childhood… that's deeply unsettling. And Gregory Peck as Mengele? He was terrifyingly calm and collected. It's the kind of villain that gets under your skin. I was especially creeped out by the scene where they showed the photos of the assassinated fathers, all looking so ordinary, juxtaposed with the innocence of the boys. Ugh. Here's my theory, though, and maybe I'm reaching, but stick with me. What if the point isn't just about trying to resurrect Hitler? What if Mengele's ultimate goal was more about proving some sick scientific point? Like, he wanted to show that environment completely overrides genetics? He was meticulously manipulating these boys' lives – the families, the deaths of their fathers – to see if he could truly force a copy based purely on nurture, not nature? I felt like that was the biggest message from the film. Because think about it, if his theory had been right, the implications are HUGE! I mean, what does that say about free will? About identity? It makes it feel like we are all just puppets of our circumstances. I almost wish the movie had dove deeper into that philosophical territory. It had the potential to be REALLY mind-blowing if they had explored other angles. Also, side note: Laurence Olivier as Ezra Lieberman was fantastic. The weariness and determination he brought to the role were heartbreaking. He feels like the only good guy in the movie, he just wanted to stop the evil. Okay, I'm still processing, but I needed to get that off my chest. Let me know what you think!
