Okay, "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs"... What Was That?!

Alright, so I finally got around to watching "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs" (Préparez vos mouchoirs) from 1978, and I'm honestly still processing... Raoul, that poor, sweet, clueless husband! He's so desperate to make Solange happy, he's willing to, like, share her with another man? The whole premise is just WILD. I'm all for exploring unconventional relationships in film, but this one just felt... unsettling? I think what stuck with me most was Patrick Dewaere's performance. He really sold that well-meaning but totally misguided husband thing. That whole sequence where Raoul is trying to provoke Solange into anything – laughter, anger, whatever – and she just stares blankly? Super uncomfortable, but also incredibly well-acted. And then, Christian, the young boy, enters the picture.... I'm not going to get into the details, but the dynamics between them all are bizarre, to say the least. It definitely left me with a lot to unpack. I'm trying not to give too much away, but honestly, this film is not for everyone. It's French, it's cynical, and it's definitely pushing boundaries. I'm not sure I liked it, but it certainly got me thinking -- and squirming, a bit, lol. Definitely a conversation starter. Anyone else seen this one and have thoughts? I really need to find out more about who directed it! The style is so unique. And the ending... Well, let's just say it's one I won't forget anytime soon. Maybe I need to watch it again to fully grasp everything going on. Help!
