Okay, "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs" - What Was THAT Ending?!

So, I watched "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs" last night, and I'm...confused, amused, and slightly disturbed all at the same time? Like, Raoul is so desperate to make Solange happy that he basically invites another guy in to, well, you know. It's kinda messed up but also, in a really weird way, hilarious. I mean, Gérard Depardieu's performance is just...wow. He plays the overly-concerned, almost clueless husband so well. But the ending. Oh boy, the ending. The whole thing with the kid, Christian, and how Solange suddenly becomes all maternal and seemingly cured of her depression after he shows up? And then the implications of what actually cured her... I'm not sure I buy it. My theory? Maybe Solange was just bored and needed a purpose. Raoul was so wrapped up in her happiness, he forgot she might just need something to do other than be miserable. The kid provided that. Honestly, I think the whole shebang is a commentary on how men try to 'fix' women instead of just, you know, listening. Raoul's constant need to solve Solange's problems makes him kinda blind to what she actually needs. Or maybe I'm overthinking it and it's just a batshit crazy French movie from the 70s. Either way, I can't stop thinking about it! What did you guys think of the ending and everything? Am I way off base here? Also, whoever chose the music for this movie deserves an award. It perfectly captured the weird, quirky tone.
