Tourist Trap: Okay, this movie is WILD
Alright guys, so I'm still working my way through the horror classics everyone always talks about. Last night I watched Tourist Trap (1979) and...wow. I was NOT prepared. To be honest, I only picked it because the cover looked creepy and it was cheap on Prime. The whole 'stranded travelers at a weird roadside attraction' thing is a trope, but this movie takes it to a whole other level of bonkers. Like, what IS that creepy mannequin with the telekinesis? I'm genuinely scared of mannequins now, thanks a lot! The part where the girl gets her face smashed in with the pipe... dude, jumped SO HARD. And that mask the killer wears? Ugh, haunting. I'm not going to lie, the acting is a little rough around the edges, and some of the dialogue is pretty cheesy. But honestly, it kinda adds to the charm? It's definitely a low-budget flick, but they really use it to their advantage to make things feel grimy and unsettling. I especially liked Mr. Slausen, the museum owner. Chuck Connors is actually pretty good in the role, even if he is super creepy. I kept going back and forth on whether he was a victim or the mastermind, and that kept me guessing the whole time. That weird sibling reveal was a bit out there, but at that point, I was already buckled in for the ride. I'm still trying to process what I watched. The ending was pretty ambiguous, and I've been reading some theories online. I think maybe the mannequins had something to do with mind control? Or maybe it's all just Slausen's twisted imagination? I'm not entirely sure, but I enjoyed trying to figure it out. I'd give Tourist Trap a solid 7/10. It's not perfect, but it's definitely original and creepy as hell. Anyone else seen it? What did you think of the ending? Oh, and P.S. - is it just me or does that mask look a LITTLE like Freddy Krueger's face before he got burned? Just a thought...
