Okay, I Watched "Jesus" (1979) - Thoughts!
So, I finally watched that "Jesus" movie from '79, the one based on Luke. Okay, first off, it was LONG. Like, three hours? But honestly, it wasn't as boring as I thought it would be. The dude playing Jesus was pretty good, in a quiet kind of way. He wasn't, like, super dramatic, but he had this calm presence, which I guess is the point? I was kinda hoping for some epic special effects, but, ya know, '79. Still, some of the scenes, like when he's calming the storm, were done decently well. I actually enjoyed the scenes with the disciples. They felt kinda relatable, just a bunch of guys following this dude, sometimes understanding, sometimes totally confused. Peter was my fave, he was a bit of a hothead, lol. And Mary Magdalene was cool too; she had this whole 'seen-it-all' vibe. One thing that did strike me was how, um, 'literal' the movie was. Like, taken directly from the Bible. I kinda wish it had some more creative liberties, maybe some backstories or something. Like, what was Jesus really thinking in those moments? I gotta admit, the crucifixion scene was pretty intense. Even knowing it's coming, ugh, it was hard to watch. Overall...it was okay? Good even. I'm not super religious, but it's a solid retelling of that story. Worth a watch if you're curious, but maybe break it up into parts unless you're feeling super patient. Probably not gonna watch again soon, though! Oh, one quick thing, is it just me, or did anyone else think that the Roman soldiers had really bad mustaches? Just sayin'.
