Brubaker: Did Anyone Else Find the Ending...Abrupt?

Hey fellow film buffs! OliviaCinema here, back from another deep dive into the world of stories brought to life on screen. This time, I finally watched "Brubaker" (1980) with Robert Redford. Whew. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, especially the beginning when Brubaker is undercover as an inmate and you're trying to figure out what's going on. The conditions he witnesses are just brutal. It’s powerful stuff. Redford is, well, Redford. He sells the idealism of the character completely. But here's what I'm wondering: Did anyone else think the ending felt a little… rushed? Like, he’s fighting for all this change, unearths all the dirt, and then BAM! He's gone. I get the point they're making about him being sacrificed for the sake of political expediency, but I almost felt like I needed another scene. Maybe something showing the direct impact (or lack thereof) of his efforts on the inmates. Or maybe just a little more closure with some of the other characters. Specifically, I was really invested in the character of Larry Bullen (David Keith). The scene where he confronts Brubaker about the unmarked graves was heartbreaking and powerful. Seeing Bullen grapple with the reality of what happened to his father felt like such a core part of the movie, so seeing all of that feel almost... dropped? Maybe I missed something? What did you all think? Overall, I really enjoyed "Brubaker" as a solid film about corruption and the penal system. But I really felt like the ending could have been better. Am I alone in this?
