Deadly Blessing: Was Louisa REALLY the Killer (or just mega-creeped out)?

Okay, so I just rewatched "Deadly Blessing" (don't judge, I have a soft spot for bad 80s horror!). And something struck me this time that I hadn't considered before: what if Louisa wasn't actually the killer, but just… deeply, profoundly disturbed by the Hittites. Hear me out! We see Louisa acting super weird the whole time. She's clearly terrified of the Hittites, and maybe she's even a little paranoid. Remember the scene where she's in the barn and it seems like something is going to happen and the tractor just turns on automatically? Then Louisa is just standing in the corner of the barn? Maybe she was just running from something she imagined? Okay weird, sure, but did she do anything that definitely confirmed she was the killer? It could have been the paranoia that drove her to that, but maybe she was being gaslit or manipulated by someone else. And then there's the whole 'spider' thing. Yeah, it's gross, but the movie never explicitly says she put it in Lana's mouth. What if her own fear manifested in some really messed-up ways, like sleepwalking or something? Plus, the actual killings are way more violent than anything Louisa seems capable of. The pitchfork in the chest? The snake? That feels like someone with a serious axe to grind (pun intended!). I know, I know, it's a stretch. But I think it makes the movie a little more nuanced. Maybe the real horror isn't a bloodthirsty killer, but the suffocating power of religious oppression and the psychological damage it can inflict on someone. It's a fun theory, anyway! What do you guys think? Maybe I'm watching too much cinema.
