Okay, hear me out: Star Trek III & the REAL reason they went back

Guys, so we just finished watching Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (bless you, Dad, for finding the VHS!), and I have a theory... It's not just about Spock. I mean, yeah, obviously, everyone loves Spock, and seeing McCoy go totally bonkers was heartbreaking. But what if the whole Genesis Planet thing was more than just a McGuffin to revive pointy-ears? Think about it. They RIPPED off the Enterprise! Risked EVERYTHING! Sure, Kirk's all noble and 'Spock would have done the same for me,' which, okay, probably true. But deep down, wasn't he also driven by guilt? Like, he made the call to sacrifice Spock to save the ship in Wrath of Khan. What if going back to Genesis wasn't just about saving a friend, but also about Kirk needing to prove to himself (and maybe even Spock, subconsciously) that he wouldn't just leave a crewmember behind again? And then there's the whole David Marcus thing. He created Genesis, knowing full well it was unstable. Kirk clearly blames himself for David's death when he faces Kruge -- which, btw, Christopher Lloyd was an AMAZING villain! -- but what if part of Kirk's urgency to get to Genesis was also to fix David's mistake? Maybe, just maybe, he knew that the planet was dangerous, and by extension, David was putting himself in danger by even being there. So, yeah, Spock's soul in McCoy is a big deal. But it's all wrapped up in Kirk's guilt, his need for redemption, and his desire to fix the consequences of past decisions. Anyone else think I'm onto something, or am I just overthinking it after too many Romulan ales (Dad's words, not mine lol)? Let me know your thoughts!!
